Whether it is the 13th album in a row in Fish’s career (including his appearance in Marillion), or true the rumour of the 13th important woman in the life of the singer is true, his latest studio effort is a great gift for fans of warm rock from the UK. The guitar impressions used as background of the vocal lines and the nice melodies are drawing the musical contours of “13th Star”. Sometimes surprisingly we are attacked by mid-tempo, almost metal riffs, standing firmly on the thick bass (“Square Go”, “Manchmal”), other times the compositions enter the deep waters of tempered with the years progressive and hard rock with beautiful instrumental passages (“Dark Star”, “Circle Line”); balladic promises for a kiss or rhythmic sail under the stars... Rich scenery, harmonic singing, tender but dense sound, the album offers synthesis of the best in the modern art rock scene, combining classic devices, folklore motifs and contemporary sound. For the first time in the solo career of Derek Dick, an active co-author in the composing is Steve Vantsis - his permanent bassist since 1997. This creative dialogue has given wonderful results under the form of ten awesome songs, joint but yet personal. In some of them (“Where in the World”, “13th Star”) Fish shares the disappointment of his relationship with singer Heather Findlay who left him days before the appointed date for their wedding last year. From here comes the melancholic picture of the album, its lyrical depth and almost theatrical hypnotism, folding the listener like a heavy velvet curtain. One shared emotion. A flight after the burning furrow of the 13th star.
