I can't get rid of the thought that the only goal of “Simple Mind Condition” is just to remind the old fans that once upon a time there was this legendary doom metal band, or to teach the youth about its existence. The 12-year-long drag of Trouble's new CD made many nervous and increased the height of our expectations to a critical level. However, it seems the band missed the right time to strike. In the early 90’s Trouble lightened up their sound in favour of taking in a more psychedelic direction. The current release is neither heavy nor psychedelic. One of the most inspiring frontmen of all time, Eric Wagner, is back, but although in fine shape, he seems to have lost something... because in only few of the 11 tracks he gets to engage the listener’s attention for real. It may be because of his age, who knows, but for sure he doesn't sound really emotional. Maybe this is a sign for being mature - to transform your energy in other ways instead of using it for rocking out...? “Simple Mind Condition” has its peaks, of course, for example the cover version of the 1970 proto-metal classic “Ride the Sky” by Lucifer's Friend, also known for being “ripped off” by Led Zeppelin in their all-time megahit “Immigrant Song”. Or the opening track “Goin' Home”, which, however, is an old one from the 1994 EP “One for the Road” - a very strange move, having in mind those 12 years... On the other hand, if classic, melodic and clean sounding rock doesn't bore you to death, you could actually dig Trouble nowadays.
