Arctic Monkeys released their first album less than a year and a half ago. For this short time they managed to climb to the top, becoming one of the biggest names in the British music scene for this decade.
After the all-smashing “Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not”, which gained many best of awards, including the Mercury Prize for 2006, being praised sky-high by press and hundreds of thousands fans, it turned out that this debut became part of the history of British music as the fastest-selling debut of all time. Releasing at least one single or full-length CD per season, each Arctic Monkeys effort becomes a hit and gets straight to the top of the charts in the UK. Having in mind all the great music coming from that corner of the world, we're wondering what makes this band that popular, because, after all, it's obvious their music isn't unique in any particular way...
Using the formula of guitar-based bands such a Franz Ferdinand and The Libertines, these four young people managed to record a second, amazingly charming, less poppy, relaxing, full of hits album. It seems the never worn out combination of social lyrics and a bit more mature pop-rock fuzzy sound bringing more depth to the whole picture helped the Arctic Monkeys overcome the hindrance more likely known as “the difficult second album”. It seems that “Favourite Worst Nightmare” is the face of indie rock nowadays. Literally. And while we're taking, the first single off it, “Brianstorm”, already took the lead in charts all over the world.
