One of the emblematic bands from the end of the former century and the beginning of the current one, Static-X, continues its activity and released its fifth album, if we don’t count in the rare recordings and remixes from 2004. In 1998 they blew up the musical circles with their debut “Wisconsin Death Trip”. Its smashing heaviness of thick, precisely cut riffs, machine beats and sampled electronic sounds is still considered by many to stay unmatched in time. “Machine”, released in 2001, definitely didn’t disappoint us by offering more from the same with more ferocious screams by Wayne Static added - the frontman who seems to be an irreplaceable part of the line-up... and the one with his hair stuck right up, not the former guitarist who fascinated under-aged girls in his car... A novelty was also represented by the more carnal and melodic drifts in the track “Cold”. 2003 saw the release of the third album “Shadow Zone” - further and further away in sound from the debut and less successful on the market. That’s not to say that it doesn’t have something good to offer, but more interesting here is that for 2005’s “Start a War” guitarist Tripp Eisen was gone because of his stay in jail, and his replacement was the good ol’ fella Koichi Fukuda. Now we have “Cannibal”. The cover that does not impress much seems to lower the expectations, but the brutal opening with the self-titled song puts back the intrigue in case you’re doubting whether this is not just the next Static-X album. We’re not going to try suggesting an answer to that question, but rather ask you about your opinion on the movie “Saw III”, whose soundtrack features the second track off the album, “No Submission”. Brutal and strictly organized devastation! The CD goes on hammering nails of steel in your mind while offering well picked up electronic machinations for short as a distraction. The forks and knives from the cover artwork stuck into your brain by the perverted guitar solos scattered across... Such is the type of the entire therapy, conducted personally by the angry as ever psycho Wayne Static. This time for goodbye the Californians have left the cheery named “Team Hate”, which - despite its not cheery at all vibe - definitely brings back the intrigue.
