Do you remember how after Machine Head's breakthrough hordes of post-thrash/groove metal bands like Skinlab, Pissing Razors, Kill Factor, Torque PHX and many others began to spawn from the Bay Area (and not only there)? Well, Hostility* were formed during this period and as a part of that wave, even though they are a lot more brutal. The dudes have played countless shows with the abovementioned bands, released a few EP's... and now, after at least 10 years on the scene, they release their debut album.
It is named "Uncompromised" and - just like the title suggests - it’s a tough punch in your face. They start pouring tons of aggression right from the opening track "Without a Chance". The abuse of double kick drums plus thrash and death metal approaches isn't uncommon throughout the album. And this doesn't cease till the end. Practically there aren't many conventional parts in the songs - things change frequently and rapidly, the riffs are rarely repeated, and usually, just when you think you’ve got the right rhythm to headbang to, the drummer does something completely unexpected that shatters your illusions. Now think of Slipknot and Meshuggah and tell me honestly that you don't enjoy this... That's what I though. Now jump in the moshpit! And since words are hardly enough to convince you, go to the band's MySpace page at myspace.com/hostilityus and break your neck to "None for All".
Even though Hostility are a product of a musical movement from a decade ago, they do fit quite well in the context of the modern American metal scene alongside bands like Lamb of God And DevilDriver. And if you by any chance haven't heard, it is exactly Hostility's bassist Brandon Sigmund who's filling in for the injured Adam Duce on Machine Head's current US tour. Just one more reason to check out the band! And some people go as far as saying this is the best debut album of the year, so - you do the math!
* A completely different band from the other Hostility who released the album "Brick"(1995, Century Media). You'd want to check them out, too, since they kick ass! - myspace.com/theonlyhostility
