Daily Noise Club have been going for over 10 years now. During that time they've done a myriad of gigs, playing clubs and festivals, and supporting giants like Anthrax (2003) and Megadeth (2005). They also managed to release one album - 2002's feisty 'Dirty Dress', followed by a single - 'Let It Out', two years later. All this was done via their own label, which seems to be the way most bands operate nowadays. And now here we are, in 2009, a very difficult time for mos musicians (and nearly everyone else on the globe too) and today, Daily Noise Club are ready to unleash their new album. This band are fighters and they are very passionate about their music. "Cool album, but I detect a certain lack of testosterone", commented one of my close friends when she heard 'Next Level'. I beg to differ, as the album sounds ballsy enough to me. Granted, the title and opening track, isn't one to grab you by the throat, but the following 'Do You Wanna Know' sets the paca for a series of blistering in-your-face songs which can be loosely described as eaw streetwise rock'n'roll from the gutter with stabs of "alternative rock" (whatever that may mean) and a nod or two back to sleazy 80's Hollywood (think Faster Pussycat, Bang Tango et al rather than Poison or Warrant). "The vocals sometimes remind me of Stanley from Life, Sex & Death", remarks a colleague of mine, who wished to remain anonymous. Let's hope that this album doesn't remain anonymous, as it most certainly has quite a bit to offer. You'll find no deep lyrics here, but they fit in well enough with the music. The funk in 'Shells' sounds not naive and childish, but rather mature, whilst 'Positive Effect' has a spaced-out vibe to it which makes me think the boys had a spliff or two when they were writing and recording it. The rest is, as they used to say back in the day, "gutsy, ballsy, horny" rock'n'roll and if you ask me, 'Next Level' is well worth getting a hold of. And don't miss this band live either.
