As everyone with at least basic knowledge of musical geography knows, in the European North breeds a lot of Rock. Maybe it's because of the darkness, maybe because of the cold but then again, maybe not, because Mustasch are not exactly dark and by no means are they cold.
Frankly, the album baering the same name pack a lot of heat and I am very picky when it comes to heats. In short the album consists of: short intro, 9 solid kicks in the nuts, a ballad, and last song that combines hypnotic whispers, splashing-heavy riffs, and string ensemble, without creating unaudable genre mixture.
Mustasch have managed to create a whole album - read that again - whole album with devastating guitars, powerful groove, and - caution! - melody. And its not the hollow mainstream crap that we love to the point of puking, but The Melody that sticks in your head and makes you headbang gently for hours whether you are on the street or at the office.
The album does not go into extremes - the tempo is no too fast, the lead singer Ralf neither roars like a pissed of bear, nor does he scream like Eric Adams. The solos are tight, right-on-the-spot, and melodic, the 11 songs are clearly distinguishable from one another, and for complete listening pleasure they flow into each other quite smoothly.
I mentioned in the beginning, that Mustasch are not exactly cold, and maybe this is the time for a little clarification: with the exception of the autobiographical "The Audience Is Listening" the lyrics are rather ominous but the energy put into the writing and recording process gives them quite the kick-them-in-the-ass attitude. The only weak spot that I say may be the ballad "I'm Frustrated". And not because it's a bad song (which it is not) but because it doesn't seem as good as the others.
So, to recapitulate - great heavy metal album that you need to listen with volume pumped to the MAX, that brings some heavy headbanging choreography along, and a great way to remind the neighbors why they hate you.
Horns up!
