Feeling a bit under-slept? 35 years after the First Nightmare insomnia gives up and Alice, for our listening pleasure, falls asleep again. And the inevitable happens... The album doesn't contain 14 songs by the way - it contains only one 53 minute song in 14 parts. You can listen to them separately but that takes significant part of the pleasure away and we don't like when pleasure is taken away. Especially from a pleasure this big. Usually surprises are not expected much from veterans but Welcome 2 My Nightmare definitely took me by surprise first - with all the diverse styles that it houses, and second - with the fact that these styles do not create an audio mess, but just the opposite - they complete each other. We have the typical Alice Cooper hard rock, rockabilly (or psycobilly, given it's Alice we are talking about here), 60s beach rock'n'roll, an instrumental that summarizes the main themes from all the other songs, and the song Disco Bloodbath Boogie Fever is pretty indescribable, but I'll give it a try - when metalheads go to heaven, this is played in the disco. And Pinhead is the DJ. And all this combines well and tells a story. The story itself is full with great humor with two exceptions - the opening I Am Made Of You and the retrospective When Hell Comes Home. I won't go into detail but as hard as Alice himself tries to convince us in the lyrics that the Nightmare is horrible, we are actually having great fun. And we don't mind having another go. And another go. And another go. And another, and another... after all, it's not funny till somebody loses an eye.
