This year is the next scheduled to be the last one, but it definitely starts good. Just mentioning Lacuna Coil causes a minor drool in the more shameless of us, but unlike the pop-shit in order to stand up in the rock world you need something more than anatomy. And Dark Adrenaline is a wonderful 45 minute thesis why the Italian band is where it is. The first impression that Dark Adrenaline does is its complete lack of needless material - the majority of songs are between 3 and 4 minutes long and each note, each riff is where they should be - nothing to add, nothing to take away. The second impression is how Coilish the album is - the rawing guitars, the headstomping riffs, the synths that stand out here and there - all trade marks of the band. The book "Stylistic turns of Lacuna Coil" would be a very short one. Dark Adrenaline is interesting not with the way buttons and knobs were set in the studio, but with its songs. Melody (with a capital M not because it's in the beginning of the sentence). The tempo in the album is moderate for metal standards and this is what allows Cristina and Andrea to do their magic. All the songs in the album have a original melodic line and after the second listening of the album you'll be able to hum them all. Most importantly, you'll want to hum them all. The song topics are mainly dark (duh!) but the album itself is not depressive, quite the opposite - its a powerful positivity shot from the dark side. After all, the fact that the world like to see things in black and white doesn't mean that black is necessarily bad, right?
