Arctic Monkeys triumphed at last night’s Shockwaves NME Awards 2008 ceremony, winning three awards – for Best British Band, Best Song (“Fluorescent Adolescent”) and Best Video (“Teddy Picker”).
Las Vegas band The Killers won the Best International Band award, beating Arcade Fire, Foo Fighters, Kings of Leon and My Chemical Romance, while The Enemy were hailed Best New Band.
Deservedly, Muse became the Best Live Band, and Kate Nash – Best Solo Artists.
Klaxons got the Best Album award for “Myths of the Near Future”, The Good, The Bad & The Queen – the Best Album Artwork award for their self-titled CD, Nirvana – the Best Music DVD award for “Unplugged – Live in New York”, and the movie about Joy Division, “Control”, was hailed Best Film.
Pete Doherty is the new Hero of the Year, George W. Bush – the Villain of the Year, Amy Winehouse – the Worst Dressed Person, The Hoosiers are Worst Band, and Britney Spears “won” the Worst Album award for her “Blackout”.
