2008 Grammy Nominations Announced

The 2008 Grammy Nominations were announced yesterday, December 6. Kanye West leads the field for the 50th annual Grammy Awards with eight nominations, followed by Amy Winehouse with six and the Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake and T-Pain, each of whom received five nods. What’s probably more intriguing for our readers, however, are some certain categories, namely Best Metal Performance, Best Rock Instrumental Performance and Best Hard Rock Performance.

And so, the Best Metal Performance nominees are As I Lay Dying for “Nothing Left”, King Diamond for “Never Ending Hill”, Machine Head for “Aesthetics of Hate”, Shadows Fall for “Redemption” and Slayer for “Final Six”.

The Best Hard Rock Performance award shall go to one of the following acts: Evanescence for “Sweet Sacrifice”, Foo Fighters for “The Pretender”, Ozzy for “I Don’t Wanna Stop”, Queens of the Stone Age for “Sick, Sick, Sick” or Tool for “The Pot”.

As for the Best Rock Instrumental Performance, the nominees are Metallica for “The Ecstasy of Gold”, Rush for “Malignant Narcissism”, Joe Satriani for “Always with Me, Always with You”, Bruce Springsteen for “Once Upon a Time in the West”, and Steve Vai for “The Attitude Song”.

The nominees in the best alternative album field are The Arcade Fire‘s “Neon Bible”, Bjork‘s “Volta”, The Shins‘ “Wincing the Night Away”, The White Stripes‘ “Icky Thump” and Lily Allen‘s “Alright, Still”.

The nominees for best original motion picture, television or other visual media song are Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder for “Guaranteed” from “Into the Wild”, Chris Cornell and David Arnold‘s “You Know My Name” from “Casino Royale”, Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova for “Falling Slowly” from “Once”, Siedah Garrett and Henry Krieger‘s “Love You I Do” from “Dreamgirls”, and Prince‘s “The Song of the Heart” from “Happy Feet”.

The Grammys will be handed out February 10 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center.
