The legendary British radio jockey John Peel, who passed away in 2004, was chosen as the most influential person in the British music industry in the past 20 years.
An online survey of eMusic chose Peel as the person who had the most positive influence on the music in Britain, while the Sony head Simon Cowell was voted as the worst to music.
Peel has been mentioned by many musicians as the man who kickstarted their careers: Among them are -Rex, David Bowie, The Sex Pistols, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Fairport Convention, Pink Floyd, The Clash, Napalm Death, Buzzcocks, The Cure, Joy Division, Def Leppard, Pulp, Ash, Orbital, The Smiths, The White Stripes and PJ Harvey.
