MUSE are the first band to announce a date for a concert at the new Wembley Stadium in London.
Last year’s concerts of Bon Jovi, Rolling Stones and Robbie Williams, which were supposed to mark the unveiling of the renovated legendary stadium were relocated to other venues, due to construction delays.
The concert of Muse, who currently are on a tour with their bestselling album “Black Holes and Revelations” has to take place on June 16 and, even though the capacity of the stadium is yet to be specified, is expected to be around 75 000 people.
In an interview with Billboard, the Muse drummer Dominic Howard said that this concert is a “a huge step up” for the band and something “we’ve dreamed of in the past”.В В
The original Wembley Stadium played host to dozens of legendary concerts, including the original Live Aid in 1985 and the Freddie Mercury Tribute in 1992. It closed in 2000 for renovation.
Wembley Stadium’s Chief Executive, Michael Cunnah, told Billboard.com there is likely to be one big music event before the Muse concert, and said he was in negotiations with a number of promoters about booking further shows.
