PRINCE releases new album ‘20Ten’ for free in Europe

Prince will be releasing his new album ’20Ten’ for free in Europe through a promotion with newspapers and magazines.

This isn’t an unusual form of distribution for the singer who released his July 2007 album ‘Planet Earth’ with the U.K.’s Sunday Daily Mail. The giveaway coincided with his London O2 concerts at the time.

No word yet as to how Prince will distribute the 10-track ’20Ten’ stateside, but retailers and record labels loathe when the singer practices such forms of marketing and often refuse to handle such albums.

With ’20Ten’ in the U.K., 2.5 million copies will be included with the Daily Mirror and its Scottish edition the Daily Record on July 10. According to Billboard, the newspaper will also feature Prince’s first British newspaper interview in 10 years.

In Germany, the August edition of Rolling Stone will include a copy of ’20Ten’ and an interview as well. The release is timed to a concert date he has in Berlin.

For Belgium, ’20Ten’ will be rolled in the Het Nieuwblad newspaper on July 10 synced to Prince’s appearance at the country’s Werchter festival. The newspaper ran its interview with Prince on June 24.В
