BLOC PARTY frontman announces solo debut

Now that Oasis and Blur are out of the picture, you’d think Bloc Party would take full advantage of being Britain’s most popular band. However, the quartet decided to take a different approach, instead choosing to go on an indefinite hiatus. That said, not all is bad in the world of Bloc Party!

As previously reported, frontman Kele Okereke is using his time off to ready his first ever solo album. On June 21st (in the UK), he’ll release the finished product, a 10-track effort titled ‘The Boxer’.

According to NME, the album, which will be under Okereke’s solo title Kele, was produced mainly in New York with producer XXXchange. Kele noted that the record will showcase a more dance-tinged sound than that of his main outfit:

“I’ve been into clubbing for years,” Kele said. “I’ve said from the beginning I’m into dance, it gets me excited and I think this record is going to go some way to prove that to people, hopefully.”

The Boxer will be preceded by the single ‘Tenderoni’ on June 14th.
