MARS VOLTA’s Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Becomes Film Director

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez can add “feature film director” to his already impressive resume: his first feature is set to have its world premiere in the Netherlands at the International Film Festival Rotterdam on Feb. 4.

The Sentimental Engine Slayer stars The Mars Volta co-founder as Barlam, described as a “20-something misfit” who’s struggling to find his place in the world in “drug-addled” suburban El Paso, Texas.

This project isn’t Rodriguez-Lopez’s first directorial project. He’s already helmed two smaller features in the past that remain unreleased: 2001’s A Manual Dexterity and 2003’s Letters From Dystopia.

In addition to directing and starring in the film, the ex-At The Drive-In member also served as the film’s screenwriter.

Rodriguez-Lopez also has two other films in the works. El Divino Influjo De Los Secretos and Boiling Death Request are both currently in post-production.
