After fronting Australia’s rockers Midnight Oil for 25 years, Peter Garrett disbanded the group in 2002 and became a politician. Obviously, his career in the ranks of Australia’s Labor Party has been more than successful so far, as yesterday the 54-year-old former singer was named environment minister in the newly elected government. Congrats!

Current Queens of the Stone Age bass player Michael Shuman has finished the recordings for the debut album by his own project Jubilee. The CD, recorded with the help of Aaron North of The Icarus Line, is going to surface in January under the title “Rebel Hiss”.

Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne have been chosen to host 2008’s Brit Awards. The ceremony is set to be held at Earl’s Court in London on February 20, and will be broadcast live on television. The nominations are due to be announced at London’s Roundhouse on January 14.

Queen & Paul Rodgers have recorded their first studio collaboration – a song called “Say It’s Not True”, to commemorate World AIDS Day tomorrow, December 1. The track, written by drummer Roger Taylor, is already available as a free download from queenonline.com.

German power metallers Rage shall release their new studio album, “Carved in Stone”, on February 22, 2008 via Nuclear Blast. The effort is the first one recorded with new drummer AndrГ© Hilgers (Axxis, Silent Force), after the departure of Mike Terrana exactly a year ago.
