Masked metal act Slipknot is midway through a year-and-a-half long sabbatical, but it doesn’t mean that the band has been completely idle. A follow-up to its 2002 DVD, “Disasterpieces,” will be issued shortly via Roadrunner, while songwriting for Slipknot‘s fourth studio effort will begin later this year.

Grateful Dead keyboard player Vince Welnick has died. He was 55. Welnick took over as the cult band’s keyboard player in 1990 and continued until the band retired from performing following the death of founder and frontman Jerry Garcia in 1995.

Celtic Frost had to cancel their planned appearance at the Rock Hard Festival in Germany on June 3. This is because frontman Thomas Gabriel Fischer was rushed to hospital, suffering from acute kidney problems. He’s expected to be fit for the band’s performance this weekend at Sweden Rock.
