The cooking blog of Tamra Davis (wife of the Beastie Boys’ Mike D) is full of sweet nuggets, but this week’s entry was particularly savory – indicating progress on a new Beastie Boys album and the health of key member Adam Yauch.В
“Mike is back mixing his record, which means Adam Y is feeling better,” wrote Davis. “Yeah!”
This is the first update that Beastie Boys fans have gotten in months regarding the health of Yauch, who announced the discovery of a tumor in his salivary gland via video message in July 2009.
Yauch’s condition forced the band to halt production on their long-in-the-making album, Hot Sauce Committee, Pt. 1, and also meant canceling a tour. He’s since undergone surgery and radiation and switched to a vegan diet.
This past April, the practicing Buddhist asked all the members of his fan club to meditate with him twice a day every day at the same time to visualize “smashing apart all of the cancer cells in the world.”
Things are looking up for the Beastie Boys (who include Michael “Mike D” Diamond, Adam “Ad-Rock” Horovitz, Adam “MCA” Yauch” and “Mix-Master” Mike Schwartz); they are among the 2011 nominees for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.В
