Singer Faris Badwan attended St Martins College Of Art, using his skills to craft inventive cover designs for the band. Releasing fanzines and t-shirts, his aesthetics have helped to define the group’s visual appeal.
In addition to this, Badwan has designed artwork for Hatcham Social, Lumina and The Charlatans.
Back in 2007 the frontman opened his first stand alone exhibition, taking his art to The Bodhi Gallery on London’s Brick Lane. Last year the singer held a new show in Bristol, and will now return to London for a major new exhibition.
Opening on August 11th in London’s Book Club, Faris Badwan will present a series of drawings, paintings and light installations. Before the exhibition opens there will be a private view at The Book Club on Wednesday the 11th of August from 6:30pm till 2am. The night will also feature a great line up of special guest DJ’s.
“What I wanted to get across with this exhibition was how much of a part of my life drawing always has been” Faris Badwan explained.
“It invades all of my daily routine, be it in the shredded form of masking tape stuck to my walls, line-drawings on restaurant napkins or the sketchbooks I carry with me. It really is the one constant solid thing in my life – a stream which runs regardless of what I happen to be doing or where.”
Faris Badwan – Drawing A Straight Number Nine runs between August 11th – 29th.
