Entitled вЂWhite Chalk’ this is her eighth studio album and her first new material since 2004’s critically acclaimed вЂUh Huh Her’.В Recording followed the 2006 release of ‘PJ Harvey: The Peel Sessions’, a collection of Harvey’s recordings for the veteran broadcaster spanning her whole career.В That year also saw the release of ‘PJ Harvey On Tour: Please Leave Quietly’, Harvey’s first DVD.В В

All eleven songs were recorded in West London and co-produced by Harvey, Flood and John Parish.В The three had worked together previously on the Grammy nominated вЂTo Bring You My Love’ and on вЂIs This Desire?’.В White Chalk also includes musical contributions from Harvey’s long time associate Eric Drew Feldman, and Jim White from The Dirty Three
PJ says: “If I had any musical direction, it was more of a вЂnon-direction’ – my only goal being not to repeat myself and hopefully not to sound like anything else.В I was trying not to use techniques which I have used before, to make a song work.В There seems little point to me these days, in making something, unless it is вЂnew’.В There is too much music in the world to just add more of the same, or more of what has already been done better.В I wanted to make a new sound that I hadn’t heard before.В A new kind of music.”
