U2 won the court case against their ex-stylist to get back an old cowboy hat, a green sweater, a pair of trousers and a pair of earrings, evaluated at a total of 5000 euro.
The Dublin high court ordered Lola Cashman to hand back the accessories and the clothes after Bono testified that she had taken them without permission during their Joshua Tree tour in 1987. Cashman on her part insisted that the belongings were given to her as a present.
During the appeal she claimed that Bono, who was running around in his underwear backstage on the last night of the tour, “plonked” the hat on her head.
The band is also trying to retrieve a number of other items which had been seen in her flat, including a video tape and monitor, rosary beads and hundreds of photographs.
In 2002, Cashman put some of the memorabilia up for sale at Christie’s. She claimed two letters sent to the auction house from U2 lawyers seeking their return were defamatory, and began proceedings against the band in the High Court in London.
