VAN HALEN, THE STOOGES, PATTI SMITH and R.E.M are among the nominated for induction in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in March next year.
More than 500 experts from the music industry will pick five out of the nine potential inductees, among which are also the rapper Grandmaster Flash, the funk band Chic, Dave Clark Five, Ronettes and the soul singer Joe Tex.
To be eligible, artists must have issued a first single or album at least 25 years prior to nomination.
Among the previous inductees are Jimi Hendrix, Johnny Cash, Chuck Berry, Ray Charles, Black Sabbath, Sex Pistols, U2, ZZ Top, Ramones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Aerosmith, AC/DC, Queen, Eagles, etc.
